The Canon Poketronic calculator is a fairly standard calculator from 1971, but it is the first hand-held calculator with built-in mini printer. It is also one of the first calculators to use Large Scale Integrated electronics. That is, all functions for calculating are within a handful or small chips, as opposed to a large circuit board full of chips.
The printer is thermal, and accounts for most of the 16V 1 Watt power supply requirements, however this did away with the complexity of a display. All buttons entered would be printed out, along with the answer.
At $400 it was not designed for the home-user. That is $2,540 in 2020 (£1,920).
